I Really Hope That's Gravy...

Early lunch's are back on schedule. No breakfast for me today, so my stomach started to grumble at me. I stared at the freezer for a few moments and decided it's time to take it back a notch. Most of you guys probably aren't going to be going and buying organic/vegan/noGMO's meals anytime soon. So lets just dive right into the food that everyone will probably be buying for themselves.

That's right kids. We have now ventured into the land of Healthy Choice. It is a dark and low calorie road but hey, most people LOVE these. My Grandmother is a healthy choice fiend. She has so many of their little snacks in her pantry and little meals in the freezer its ridiculous. We have also ventured into a realm that has been untouched until today. Yes, you guessed it. It's an actual meal. Not just the entree, we got ourselves some mashed taters and omgcorn! And what is that I see? An apple crisp? Well goodness me, today's lunch is more like a champions dinner.

I am more of a Lean Cuisine kind of guy, but Healthy Choice is the master of frozen meals. I mean it has the word Healthy in its name, clearly you should choose it (hahaaa see what I did there?) This is another one of the Jenny Steph Meals. Although they wanted to get me some things a little different, they couldn't resist getting a few "normal" microwaveable meals. I was a little worried, I have never had this one before. Anything claiming to be "Country" worries me. Most people don't know what REAL Country food is. And to claim that is healthy just proves my point. If any of you guys find yourselves in Tomball Texas, go to Goodson's Restaurant. Oh. Mah. God. They have the BEST Chicken Fried Steak/Chicken in the entire universe. Yum Yum. And It will probably have enough calories to last you two weeks.

I'm getting a little too excited about this meal. So lets pop this baby into the microwave. I didn't have to change the power levels on this one either. Is it sad if that kind of made me excited?

...Someone did something very awful to my chicken. If this came out to me in a restaurant I would totally send this back. What did I do to offend the Cook? Luckily its just gravy, but good god. Just look at it. The potatoes also look a little *tilts head* unnatural. The veggies, that's a little hard to mess up. And the apple crisp...it looks like a pile of snot.

It didn't smell bad. I didn't poke it as much as I normally do with meals. So that was a good sign. Lets just break it down by each piece.

Chicken: not as bad as I thought. It was a little soggy because the gravy had soaked into the breading. The chicken part tasted like chicken. A little spongy, but that's to be expected with all microwaveable chicken.

Gravy: Tasted normally. Iknwright?!

Mashed Taters: Good, but not real. There is no way. I am going to make a vote that it was probably those instant flakes. They can probably last longer microwaved and keep that unnatural fluffiness longer.

Veggies: Its hard to mess up steamed veggies. The Peas tasted like peas, the corn like corn, the carrots tasted really off. They were super soggy and did not have the same taste of carrot. Its not hard taste to mess up. It kinda tasted like soggy sweet potatoes without the sweetness part. I'm not sure how to explain it.

Apple Crisp: Actually really amazing. It probably smelled the worst out of everything but it was really good. The apples tasted really fresh and the...whatever that is on top didn't really have much of a taste so it was no problem. They were so yummy.

All in all it was pretty good. It should, however, stop claiming to be "Country" because its not. It's good, but not country. After looking at it again I wondered, "How the heck was that good?" It looks like I'm having more good food than bad. Which is awesome because I am the one having to eat this stuff. I can't say that it will all look good but as long as it tastes good, I'm a happy camper.

Well that is all for today. I'm going grocery shopping tonight so I'll try to pick out the largest variety I can. If anyone has any requests, just leave a comment here and I'll see if our HEB has them.

Happy Microwaving!

  1. I'm a big fan of Healthy Choice meals, because they're fucking delicious. I would suggest beef stroganoff, sweet asian pot stickers, fire roasted tomato chicken, and sweet bourbon steak tips. :)
